The Scottish Baronial castle overlooks the Solway Firth and the Irish Sea, tucked away on the Solway coast in a region which is renowned for its sandy beaches and mild, Gulf Stream-influenced microclimate.

Orchardton Castle is set in 5 acres of grounds with botanic gardens and woodland, a large pond and paddock, and a stable block.

A beautiful hedged garden is located south of the property, and there’s a footpath which leads to a private beach. The property is surrounded by sweeping lawns with interesting plants (including a palm tree!) and regular visits from local peacocks, deer, and pheasants. T

he castle was completed in the 1880s by William Douglas Robinson, expanding the original mansion built in 1761 for Sir Robert Maxwell, the seventh baronet of Orchardton. The original 18th century Orchardton Tower still stands nearby.

The castle is grand and enormous, with 45 rooms and 30 working fireplaces, a 32’ foot drawing room and several unique leisure rooms, including a screening room, music room, and ping pong room.

There are 17 bedrooms and 3 independent flats across the castle, positioning the property ideally for boutique tourism. The property has a rich history, which includes incarnations as a school, a hotel, and even a hospital for wounded soldiers.

Renovated extensively in 2011 with a new roof, central heating and pipe work and electrics, Orchardton Castle has tremendous potential as a fixer-upper to be further restored into an incredible legacy home or converted into a truly unique boutique hotel on the Scottish Riviera.

The incredible property is set on the Solway coast in Dumfries and Galloway in the southwest corner of Scotland, 90 miles south of Edinburgh and Glasgow.
