The Bridge House: Modern Home Inspired by Vermont’s Covered Bridges
The ultra-private estate spans 240 acres of countryside near the town of Stowe, Vermont, known as the “Ski Capital of the East”.
Designed by Toronto architect Jim Strasman for former financial executive Jim Connacher, the house was built across a river on the property with a contemporary design inspired by the vintage covered bridges throughout New England.
The 4800 sq ft residence offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape of meadows and mountains, encased in glass, with decks on each side running the entire 140-foot length of the property.
Local artisans were hired for custom features, like the wooden spiral staircase which offers scenic views of the creek beneath the property and a waterfall.
Designed as an all-season vacation home, the 2-bedroom property has an expansive open concept living/dining area centred around a floor-to-ceiling slate fireplace and featuring custom woodwork and peaked ceilings that reach 18.5 feet.
The Vermont estate comes with woodlands, trails, ponds, a tennis court, an orchard, a guest house and a caretaker’s apartment.
