French Baroque Residence in Haute Provence
Nestled in the heart of a hilltop village in the Haut Var, this magnificent French chateau dates back to the 17th century and was once the summer resort of a noble Provençal family.
The property originally belonged to the Baron d'Hesmivy, a rich merchant from Marsailles who was appointed controller of the chancellery at the court of Provence under Louis XVI.
After his death in 1785, the property passed to Mr Edouard Laurent de Coriolis. Left abandoned for several decades in the 20th century, the property was sold by his heirs to the current owners in 1992.
They embarked on a sympathetic and thorough 10-year restoration of the chateau and grounds, and were awarded the VMF - Heritage Label "Prix des Vieilles Maisons Françaises" in 2008.
Inside, the Provencal chateau has been restored in an elegant and minimal Tuscan style, featuring Venetian plaster walls, terracotta tile floors, and an abundance of rich detailing throughout.
The 12 bedroom chateau has several formal living rooms which spill out onto the terraces and gardens that surround the property and there are two additional apartments in the annexes overlooking the courtyard.
To complete the Provencal reverie, a swimming pool is nestled with the 2.4 acres of grounds.
The French chateau is situated in a dominant position over the valley, offering enchanting views across a rolling landscape of olive groves and vineyards.
The outstanding Provencal property also boasts striking mountain views of the Esterel, the Sainte-Baume and the Maures Massif.
