Quinta do Marquês is surrounded by formal gardens, set in an elevated position and offering lovely views over the surrounding countryside of its 145 acre estate.

Located in the Terre Novas region of central Portugal, near the city of Santarem, the property was originally built in the 17th century as a chalet and was transformed into its current fanciful incarnation in the 19th century by the Counts of Foz.

The country house was reimagined in the neo-Manueline style, a revival of the 16th century Portgueguese Final Gothic architectural style, and even incorporated two original 16th century Manueline windows into the Portuguese property.

The 20-bedroom country house is as whimsical inside as it is out, with 30 themed rooms throughout the 9687 square foot country house.

Period details include original marble and bronze fireplaces, gilded wood and floral frescoes on the staircases and walls, and traditional Portuguese Azulejos throughout.
