Dunbeath Estate: Historic Castle and Epic Estate on the Coast of Scotland
Ths historic Dunbeath Castle offers a spectacular Scottish setting in the British Isles with its clifftop positioning above the north sea, offering commanding coastal views of the surrounding remote wilderness.
Dating back to the 15th century, the castle was extensively remodelled in the 1860s in the Baronial style by one of Scotland’s leading architects at the time, David Bryce.
The fairytale castle offers plenty of romance with an ornate turnpike staircase as well as several spiral staircases hidden within the many turrets, and fine period detailing throughout the property, which has been beautifully maintained as a cherished family home.
There are several grand, east-facing reception rooms overlooking the sea with large windows and a total of 13 bedrooms, of which 8 are considered as principal bedrooms, bearing the names of great naval battles above their doors.
Dunbeath Castle’s landscape was also remodelled in the 19th century to include an impressive ‘keyhole’ drive, designed to frame the castle dramatically upon approach as well as a pair of walled gardens on either side.
Dunbeath estate totals 28,500 acres and offers some of the most beautiful topography in Scotland’s great coastal wilderness with 12.5 miles of flowing rivers, 4 hill lochs, and approximately 4 miles of rugged coastline.
Comprising moorland, riverside and coastline, the impressive estate presents a rare combination of sport, fishing, farming, significant environmental and green energy opportunities, such as extensive peatland restoration.
Over 500 acres of land are used for farming and there are also 20 houses and cottages on the property which provide accommodation for staff and are used for short and long term rental for income generation.
