Dreamy 18th Century French Chateau, 30 Miles From Paris

Dreamy 18th Century French Chateau, 30 Miles From Paris

Château d’Aunoy  is set within the heart of a protected forest within a 116 acre estate near the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte—approximately 1 hour from Paris.

The French chateau comes with an English Garden, spanning 44 acres of the country estate planted between 1760 and 1769 by designer Louis Carrogis Carmontelle.

When the Prince of Conti and the Duchess of Chartres visited the chateau in 1769 and 1770, they discovered the “delicious garden” and later commissioned Carmontelle to design the first French landscape park, the Parc Monceau in Paris.

Built on the site of a medieval castle which burned down in 1750, the chateau was constructed entirely of stone, so as to be indestructible by fire.

Largely unchanged from the 1750s and listed as a historic monument, the baroque mansion has kept its original spirit intact, featuring original wood panelling, soaring 16-foot ceilings, herringbone parquet floors, and cabochon tiles.

The current owner, a prominent antiques dealer in Paris, purchased the chateau in the 1970s and invested millions into restoring the chateau and surrounding parkland.

The previous owner, a designer for Maison Jansen, added the ceiling mural in the salon, inspired by the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

The 8600 square foot chateau has 10 ensuite bedrooms and several grand reception rooms with beautiful lighting from the property's double east-west exposure.

There are several other outbuildings on the French estate offering an additional 8600 square feet of living space, as well as a guest house, a hunting lodge, a caretaker's house, stables, greenhouses, and an orangerie.

The turnkey property presents a unique opportunity for boutique tourism at the gates of Paris.
