Yarnton Manor is on the market for £9,000,000, listed with Knight Frank.

Yarnton Manor is the principal house of the village of Yarnton, located midway between the University city of Oxford and Woodstock, famous for Blenheim Palace. 

Listed for sale as an institution, the estate includes the principal village house and a portfolio of various education and accommodation facilities, including a number of detached cottages, and a Grade II listed former vicarage, for a total of over 35,000 square feet of accommodation. 

The 29.5 acre estate comes with a dedicated Croquet Lawn, orchards, paddocks, and 26 acres of woodland. The gardens are Grade II listed as well. The sunken and walled gardens, a Victorian sundial, and an Old Tennis Lawn provide an idyllic backdrop to garden games and outdoor relaxation. 

The Grade II* listed Jacobean manor house was built in 1611 by the wealthy Spencer family, and features original flagstone floors, intricate carved timber detailing and doors, elaborately panelled rooms, and fine plastered ceilings. Not long after it was built, the estate fell into a ruinous state and was neglected for over 200 years.

It wasn’t until the late 19th century that the residence was restored and the gardens extended by the Oxford-based Gothic Revival architect, Thomas Garner, commissioned by Henry Robert Franklin. As the house had been untouched for over two centuries, Garner was able to preserve much of the original period details, including the Jacobean-style carved staircase. 

In the early 20th century, Yarnton Manor changed hands several times, and was purchased by a prominent Oxford scholar. Used as a manor house campus for decades, the estate provides a memorable setting for private and corporate events.
